Trusting God

Trusting God is not the hard part. The real question is what are you trusting Him for?

I have often been in situations where advice was offered by well-meaning friends. Trust God. He’s got it under control. He knows what his plan is. Or any number of other true but easy quips. It’s not bad advice, but it is incomplete.

First off, God is infinite and eternal. He has no end. He is omniscient. There is nothing beyond his knowledge and understanding. God is Sovereign. He has ultimate and complete authority. He is all powerful. He is the beginning and end.

So, trusting God should be easy. It isn’t always though because of our own lack of faith, or understanding, or simply because we want something different than what He has given us this minute.

May I suggest that God isn’t the problem here? It’s you. Well, it’s me, too. The problem isn’t just trusting God. What is more to the point is you are trusting him for what?

Are you trusting him to end the storm and turbulence you’re facing?

What if that’s designed specifically to teach you, create something in you, build you in some way?

Are you trusting him for peace? He promises peace. So don’t trust him for it. Walk in it. Speak it out loud, where your ears hear your voice say it, confess it. He is my peace.

You may trust God with your wishes, but his main goal is what's best for you, not just granting your requests.

You need an answer and you are waiting and trusting God to provide it.

None of this is wrong.

However, there is a higher place of trusting. Trusting God to complete what he has already begun in me; in the circumstance; in the plans for my future. Trusting him to BE the answer; that whatever comes I have the assurance He is for me and will not leave me or abandon me; whatever the outcome He is the answer and that’s all I need.

Trusting him not for peace but that he is my peace.

Trusting him not to grant me my wish, but that my wish would be his wish for me, and the desires of my heart are aligned with his will.
